Beto, you lent money to Chuy again?
Beto: Solo un poquito. Me lo paga el viernes.
Just a little. He's paying me back Friday.
Listen to that "poquito." Just a little. He is already making it smaller than it is. That is Beto telling on himself before she even pushes.
Lupita: El viernes pasado también dijo eso.
He said that last Friday too.
Beto: Ay, Lupita. No empieces.
Ugh, Lupita. Don't start.
"No empieces" means don't start. He is trying to close the door before she opens it. He is not angry here. He is bracing, because he already knows she is right.
Lupita: Te lo dije mil veces. Chuy no paga.
I told you a thousand times. Chuy doesn't pay.
Beto: Es mi amigo. Confío en él.
He's my friend. I trust him.
Lupita: Órale, pues. Y tú tan tranquilo.
Sure, fine. And you're so calm about it.
"Órale, pues" looks like she is agreeing. She is not. It is a shrug with a tiny eye roll folded inside. She is done arguing this round, or she wants him to think so.
Beto: ...Bueno. Igual ya no me contesta.
...Well. He's not answering me anymore either.
Lupita: No hay peor sordo que el que no quiere oír.
