Happy Sábado ☕

Grab your coffee.

Today we are in Guadalajara, right at the counter of a little panadería. It is early, and the bread is still warm.

A guy walks in to pay off a bet he lost, and how he pays it is the whole lesson.

Watch his hands, not just his words.

THE SCENE 🖼️

Rafa: ¡Órale! Miren quién se dignó a venir.
Well, look who finally showed up.

Diego: Ya, ya. Aquí estoy, ¿no?
Yeah, yeah. I'm here, aren't I?

Rafa did not even say hi. He went straight for the tease. With close friends, the jab comes before the hug.

Rafa: Pensé que te ibas a rajar.
I thought you were gonna back out.

Diego: ¿Yo? Nunca. Ten.
Me? Never. Here.

Watch his hands, not his words. He is already putting a bag on the counter. He came to pay before Rafa could even ask.

Rafa: No manches. ¿Una docena completa?
No way. A full dozen?

Diego: Lo prometido es deuda, wey.
A promise is a promise, dude.

There it is. He did not announce it. He just said it while sliding the bag across the counter.

Rafa: Órale. Y hasta de las de vainilla.
Whoa. And even the vanilla ones.

Diego: Sé cuáles te gustan. No soy un salvaje.
I know which ones you like. I'm not an animal.

Rafa: Neta que sí cumples, cabrón.
For real, you always come through, man.

And now the flavor. He remembered which ones Rafa likes. Right there, the bet stopped being a bet.

Diego: Siempre. Aunque me duela.
Always. Even when it hurts.
